Evasion Of Cigarette Tax Alleged

A Livingston County man was charged with evading the state's cigarette tax after more than 2,600 cheap cigarettes without tax stamps were found in his car during a traffic stop.

Jason Michael Schafer, 23, of Geneseo was stopped by a Genesee County Sheriff's deputy at 9:55 p.m. Friday on West Main Street in Batavia for a traffic violation.

He was ticketed, the Sheriff's Office said.

Teen accused under Leandra law

A 17-year-old Wyoming County resident accused of driving drunk with a 13-year-old passenger has been charged with felony aggravated driving while intoxicated. Dalton P. Caryl of Silver Springs was charged under Leandra's Law early Saturday after a traffic stop on Route 19 in Gainesville, according to Wyoming County Sheriff's officials.

The girl's 32-year-old mother also was a passenger.

Caryl also was charged with failure to keep right, operating out of class and driving an uninspected motor vehicle.
